Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time)  is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time.  If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen  then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working.

Should not : It should not but being sick can often cause menstrual cycle disruption. If this is a one time event then it should correct itself. If this is a recurring problem you will need to discuss with your doctor.

There's : There's no way to know whether you are pregnant or not without the test. You can either take another home pregnancy test as long as it has been 5- 6 weeks since your last normal period, or you can go see your doctor and they can test you. A home pregnancy test is 97% accurate if taken a week or more after the missed period, so another negative test would help confirm that you are not pregnant. A blood test can tell if you are pregnant as soon as 7 days after conception and a doctor's urine pregnancy test can tell if you are pregnant around when you next period should come.

Maybe not: Having sex is the usual way to cause a woman to get pregnant... so the answer to such a question is always yes (assuming a fertile woman and a fertile man). That said, Nexplanon works well and should prevent pregnancy, regardless of whether or not either person is using commonly prescribed antibiotics... with the exception of rifampin. Rifampin can lower the blood levels of contraceptive hormones.

Sometimes.: Some antibiotics can reduce the efficacy of your birth control pills.  Check with your doctor about specific antibiotics that you may be taking.  If you are not sure then you could us a back up method like a condom.

Elimination issue: That depends on the antibiotic.  Usually we say that it takes 5 half lives of the antibiotic to get out of the body.  More importantly, the effect on your normal gut bacteria; can be altered &gt; 1 month depending on how broad spectrum the antibiotic.  Flora helps ocp absorption. It would be safest to at least use a secondary mode of protection for a month after you complete your course of antibiotic.

Drugs that affect BC: Azithromycin is a medication that is known to reduce the estrogen in birth control pills and can increase your risk of getting pregnant. BC pills interact with nearly 400 medications so it is important to tell your doctor that you are taking BC pills before he prescribes you any medication. Good luck :)

Usually no worries: The current thinking is that except for rifampin, other commonly-used antibiotics (such as doxycycline and many others) do not alter the effectiveness of birth control pills. This is likely presuming a person is not sick with vomiting or rapid diarrhea, or some other condition that decreases the absorption of a swallowed pill.
