See below: I assume you have had a renal ultrasound and your post-void urine residual measured.   If these are normal try prophylaxtic antibiotics. Trimethoprim/sulfa (septra/bactrim), norfloxacin, and Nitrofurantoin (macrobid) given in low dose each night before bed are the usual antibiotics used for frequently recurrent uti's.  I do not prescribe Nitrofurantoin because of its potentially serious toxicities.

Outbreak of what?: If you are having recurrent episodes of genital herpes, oral valacyclovir can be helpful in ameliorating or shortening duration of the episode.  Some doctors will provide prophylactic Acyclovir to lengthen the times periods between outbreaks.  There is seldom, if ever, a need for antibiotics in association with herpetic outbreaks, and in fact they are contraindicated.

i have a drug resistant ecoli uti. how worried should i be about being contagious.? do i need to stay away from family? just starting second antibiotic

Since : Since you started the appropriate antibiotic you should not be worried about the spread of infection, especially since this type of infection is rarely transmitted from one person to another; it's usually auto-transmitted, meaning you get it from other areas of your body; typically bacteria from your rectum transmitted to your urinary tract.
Remember you should always practice good hygiene, handwashing is key.

i have a uti that won't go away i did a culture an it said ecoli  my gyno gave me cipro (ciprofloxacin) didn't work.my urine still looks cloudy and soapy he told me to comeback he will put me on long term antibiotic?

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim): Try the antibiotic bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim).  It works really well for uti.  I hope you are not allergic to this medication.   Talk to your ob/gyn good luck.

Have it checked out: Your symptoms may not be infectious bladder infection.   If this has been going on for a year then you need to have further work up with a urogynecologist or urologist.   If it truly is a UTI then they need to figure out why this is chronic.   Long term antibiotics may be necessary.

Uva Ursi: Once abnormal bacteria have established in the urinary system, the best remedy is oral antibiotics.  Home preventatives may include increasing water intake and pure cranberry supplement.  Evidence exists that the herb Uva Ursi (oral preparation) helps prevent the bacteria E. Coli (a very common urine pathogen) from adhering to the bladder wall, preventing infection.

Contagious: You may very well be contagious. You need to see your doctor ASAP (or the Emergency facility) where your history will be taken, you will be examined, and lab tests drawn. Once that is complete you will be instructed regarding what meds to take.

Minimize, not cure: You can minimize but not "cure" this type of cystitis due to ongoing frequent intercourse. Tips as follows: Empty your bladder prior to sex and as soon as convenient after. Wipe from front to back after voiding. Do not go from anal to vaginal intercourse without thoroughly washing first. Finally, see a Urologist for tests(culture/sensitivity) &amp;  to see if there are anatomical problems with bladder
