why does hcv testing have s/co ratio of 0.0-0.9 for negative reading? arent antibody testing a positive or negative result to know if you do or do not have the virus? if one has result of 0.1, shouldnt that mean they have some level of it?

: The test doesn't work that way. For almost all tests of the type called enzyme immunoassas (EIA), an index value below the positive cut-off (usually 0.9 to 1.1) is totally negative. The same specimen tested 10 times could give 10 different numbers, and all would be equally negative, meaning no antibody in the sample. Same for many other EIAs, such as tests for HIV, HSV and many more.

what are the testing options for herpes 2?  i've read about igg and igm, with questions around the reliability of igm antibody testing.  how soon can tests be performed?  i'm at 32 days post potential exposure, no outbreaks, but wondering if exposed?

Antibody to what?: If you are asking about antibody to Covid, what will you do with the results. It is generally better to let your doctor decide if a test is warranted.

Very accurate: If performed properly, oraquick has shown consistently verifiable results.  You can always check with your doctor for additional testing (such as antigen or PCR) if you're really concerned.  But, all things being equal, the oraquick tests are as reliable as the antibody tests we use in the office.

HIV testing: 95% of those tested at three months should be accurate. But to get 100% that would be six months.  If you have a high risk exposure this can be 100% tested at 21 days post exposure with the HIV RNA test.

HIV test results: It just depends on what they mean by "very accurate". About 90% of newly infected people have positive AgAb HIV tests by 21 days -- very good by standards of many diagnostic tests for various medical conditions, but most persons at risk for HIV want more certainty, and these tests take 28 days to reach 98% reliability, 6 weeks for 100%. Performance is the same for all available HIV AgAb tests.

my ana test results are positive with 1:320 centromere. i have moderate fatigue and joint pain. what further antibody testing is usually suggested?

HSV testing: Both are good. A PCR blood test looks for circulating viral DNA. The IgG look for the development of an antibody against the virus. If these are not present 7 weeks after exposure then the most likely conclusion is that you did not acquire it.
