Therapy /alignment: typically ligament repair is performed to increase stability and tighten structures.  Physical therapy can assist to increase muscle strength and proprioception at the ankle which could be very helpful.  I would also recommend a bio mechanical exam to evaluate alignment and function of extremity.  Bracing can be beneficial during increased activity to prevent injury.   See doc if persists.

X-ray: Start with x-ray and see your primary care physician.  Further imaging, such as mri, may be necessary to assess the ligaments and soft tissue of the ankle.  You may also need to see the orthopedist.

See your doctor: First get checked for a blood clot.  This can cause leg swelling and is more likely when you can't get around due to a joint problem.  If the problem is water/ fluid retention elevating the leg, decreasing salt in your diet, and support stockings can help.  If the problem is the ankle joint you will need to see your doctor for treatment before surgery.

in june 2013 i had a denovo graft to repair an osteochondral defect on left ankle. i have a burning sensation and my ankle will give way.  why?

Ankle pain: You may have underlying instability of the ankle from ligament injury.  The burning sensation can be from the original surgery if a sensory nerve is irritated. Check with your original surgeon and get a reevaluation.

Sounds reasonable: Often a little compression wrap about the ankle will improve the symptoms and give you a sense of stability. If the pain persists see a doctor who may be able to give you a definitive diagnosis  and treatment recommendation.  Do you recall a specific injury?

i have a severe edema on both of my ankles and feet making me walk with difficulties, i'm 10 months postpartum, is severe edema normal 10 months after giving birth via c-section, is anything i can do to make it go away?

: "Severe edema" in lower extremities should be evaluated by your GYN physician, with a possible referral to a cardiologist for confirmation that such does not have a cardiac related cause.

Weak ligaments: If you have a history of sprains or even if you dont the ligaments may be weak. Important to evaluate the cause and consider bracing and a course of physical therapy. See your local foot and ankle specialist.

See the doctor...: Can't really make a comment with your symptom because it's too broad.  You should have it examined if there's any doubt...Without an injury history, you would want to find out what is going on.

Loose ligaments: Multiple ankle sprains can lead to this.  You need to strengthen your ankle's propioceptors.  This is done by balancing on uneven surfaces such as baps board, pillow, or other soft surfaces.  First hold a rail for support, as you improve progress to both feet and then just one foot balancing with the other in the air.
