had ankle debridement & modified brostrom 2 mos ago. have been full weight bearing for 2 wks. i have a limp what causes this? how long will i have it?

Could be your: Simply not used to walking yet....discuss with your surgeon. They may recommend physical therapy.

Yes: 7 weeks is not that far out for foot and ankle surgery. Since you had surgery on something that you walk and bear weight on, pain, soreness, and swelling can occur for several months...sometimes even 6 months. Soreness  is definitely to be expected at this point. I would say that any remaining sharp pain should begin to improve during the next few weeks. Also, make sure to see your surgeon too.

how long do you need physical therapy for after ankle scope and debridement?

ankle: Length depends on why the surgery was performed and what was discovered at the time of surgery.  Perhaps a couple of weeks may help but if no improvement with pt, discontinue and ask for a home program.

Call your surgeon.: The fact that you have asked this twice here suggests  that you really should call your doctor. It's part of their job.

( You may need to back off on your weight bearing either by using your crutches to increase weight bearing more slowly or resting more frequently during the day. )

Varies: The outcome varies somewhat, but in general it is a successful procedure in the properly selected patient, with about a 90 percent return to activity rate if you are a good surgical candidate.

can scar tissue after ankle debridement & modified brostrom create a popping noise when moving the ankle a certain way? does this noise ever go away?

No: Scar tissue does not give rise to popping sound. Normal soft tissue may. Dont worry if it is only popping sound. But if you develop pain or swelling ot the area become red, consult your doctor.

if debridement and bone spur removal is done and ankle stiffness isn't resolved is ankle fusion next step? is it to slow/stop arthritic progression?

Talk to your surgeon: Only a surgeon that has evaluated your ankle and your imaging studies can answer this.  Joint fusions are typically reserved for severe arthritis that has failed all other treatments.

i have fai right hip. arthroscopic surgery is april 6. today mri discovered need left ankle scope debridement. can both be done in 1 surgery 2 surgeon?

Probably not: Technically, yes it could be done, but it is probably not a good idea.  If you had to have a right hip scope and left ankle scope that required non weight bearing after surgery, you would be pretty close to being bed ridden.  Where as if you did one side at a time you could be up with crutches.

i just had a open big toe debridement surgery with microfractures how long will i be in great pain and my foot swollen?

You should discuss: With your surgeon. I would think you would be on pain killers. Elevation and ice are a good idea. You would want to make sure nothing is infected......

what is the best way to change dressing diabetic foot ulcer after debridement? changing dressing should be clean or sterile?

Accepted Answer

As clean as possible: If the packages are sterile inside, they need to be opened without touching the contents that comes in contact with the wound.
