See your regular doc: He or she will do an x-ray (and possibly an mri). If fractures or dislocations are seen, your doctor can refer you to an orthopedist or spine surgeon he or she trusts. Injuries to the coccyx can be pretty painful. Using a doughnut cushion and nsaids can help. Some times injections to the area and other interventional or surgical procedures need to be employed.

Coccydynia.: This sounds like coccydynia, which is a pain in the tail bone which occurs after sitting on a hard surface for a long time or from falling onto your tail bone onto a hard surface.  Can take a long time to heal up.  You can try sitting on a "donut", that soft cushion with a hole in the middle that you find at the surgical supply stores.  Anti inflammatories and heat may help.
