Yes: Injecting any drugs into arm veins can cause scarring of the veins, which increase your risk of swelling.  This is not true lymphedema, which is caused by damage to lymph vessels, but the symptoms of swelling can be the same.

High-dose endorphin: Human beings (and other animals as well) make their own "opioids" during times of stress, when in pain, when exercising and when happy - these are enkephalins and endorphins.  Large amounts of these cause an intense euphoria - a "rush" or "high."  Heroin is an extremely effective drug that crosses into the brain very quickly and has fewer side effects than morphine, producing this same euphoria.

: Best  approach to  "make it better" is to uncover  the cause.  See your doctor and get evaluated for potential peripheral neuropathy or  even a demyelinating  disorder.  This has no relationship to prior  heroin,  not used  for  10 yrs.

NO: If it was a DNA drug test you had done, it will show up.  Don't do illegal drugs, especially heroine, as it is one of the most addicting known.  Stay well.

You may have hit a: nerve.  Nerves and blood vessels tend to take the same bath together, so injecting into a vein, especially one that's deep, can easily injured a nerve.  With good reason, I always recommend that if something you're doing hurts, you should stop doing that something.  Perhaps it's time for you to seek counseling and treatment for your heroin use. What you are really: Asking, i would guess, is how long can it be detected with drug testing. Heroin is metabolized rapidly to morphine and then to inactive metabolites, and it essentially gone within 3-4 hours from blood/brain. However, metabolites can be detected for several days, generally 2-4, and in heavy users up to 5 days out.  It can be detected in hair for months, depending on length of hair tested.
