is yogurt considered  okay food  to take with  amoxicillin?

For the most part: Yogurt or other fermented foods are okay to take during/after antibiotic treatment.  Antibiotics take care of the bad bacteria, but can also get rid of the good bacteria in our gut.  It is helpful to eat fermented, probiotic-rich foods to help replenish the lost good bacteria.  The only reasons not to eat yogurt is if you have a dairy allergy/intolerance or if it's made with a lot of added sugar.

Probiotics: always a good idea to use dairy or take probiotics ( Florastor ) while taking antibiotics.

is it ok to crush my amoxicillin 500 mg oval white tablets and put it in yogurt? having trouble swallowing pills.

Accepted Answer

Should be fine: If tablet can cut in half and take as halves or crush and take with yogurt.  Not if capsule and Amoxicillin is often in capsule form.

Antibiotics &amp; yeast: Antibiotics commonly used to treat urinary tract infections can upset vaginal balance leading to yeast infection. It's unlikely that eating yogurt will cure such an infection. Luckily there are many OTC options to treat such antibiotic-induced yeast infections. See your Family Doc if yeast infection symptoms persist.

Probably: Probiotics are beneficial micro-organisms which help prevent infection by harmful bacteria, yeast and fungi. Antibiotics can decrease their effectiveness, so begin after you complete antibiotics and continue daily to help prevent the yeast infection.

im taking augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for a piercing infection & i halvent been eating yogurt with it. it burns when i pee. whats wrong with me!?

Dysuria: I doubt that the Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) has anything to do with these urinary symptoms. What u describe is the symptom of dysuria-so this needs evaluation by a doctor. A urinalysis and urine culture would be a good place to start. You may also need an STD check if your sexually active and don't use protection. Yogurt is good to eat, but not essential. Hope your piercing infection clears up- Q over treatment?

Yes, but..: Yes, you can continue taking the probiotics and eating yogurt, but the antibiotics will just kill the probiotics, so better save your $ and wait until the course of antibiotics is finished and then resume the probiotics and yogurt. Yes..: Taking probiotics and/or yogurt will not interfere with your treatment of h. Pylori.

does amoxicillin go bad?

Accepted Answer

Yes: All drugs eventually go bad.  All drugs have an expiration date on the bottle.  The drug is not necessarily inactive after this expiration date but has only been tested by the manufacturer to be active for that length of time.
