Yes and no: You could take it off an on for the rest of your life without problems. Your body could also develop an allergic reaction to it the next time you take it. The same thing can happen with foods, and other things. Some people seem to be more "allergic" than others.

Varies by dose and…: if other (interacting) meds/supplements R being taken. Half-life is 61.3 min; 60% of the dose is excreted in urine 6-8 hrs after dose. Generally a med is cleared from the system within 10 half-live, thus about 10 hours. Other meds may prolong its presence in the body; so side effects may last longer. : Allergic reaction to amoxicillin can be fatal. Have your doctor know of your concerns, past history and be tested for possible allergy or change in medication. If no known past reactions, than you should be able to take this drug.

The three concerns..: Are: (1) developing an allergy-unpleasant but rarely dangerous; (2) diarrhea-more common; (3) developing antibiotic resistance in colonizing bacteria. The real question is, what is he on antibiotics for? There are certainly valid reasons possible, and in some cases, the major effect of an antibiotic in a 1 year old is getting him to his second birthday.

Throat infection: An antibiotic should only be given if there was a strep test or culture done. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is Amoxicillin and clavulinic acid. Amoxicillin is usually sufficient for strep. Even in the few cases where strep is resistant to Amoxicillin (or augmentin), the resistance is usually short-lived and resolves within 3 months. So, you do not have lie-long resistance.

Won't help: The liquid med begins to break down as soon as water is added but holds its strength for 10-14 days if refrigerated. After expiration it is basically tasty protein shake, with little if any benefit. The same goes for pill products. After expiration any strength of the product is below standards or may be zero.

Hopefully better: Not sure what you are asking.  Generally Amoxicillin has few side-effects.  Some people have mild GI intolerance, and there are allergic reactions.  If it is doing its job and was chosen carefully you should feel improved.

Amoxicilin OD: One should try to never take more than the recommended dose of a medicine but fortunately this one has a fairly low risk of serious problems.  One would have to take a very large amount of medicine to have any serious side effects from it.  The most likely apart from an upset stomach would be diarrhea.
