only a few people will get seizures, while most people will not get seizures, so other factors play a role.

Different effects: Both are medications given IV (into a vein) to make someone sleep. Propofol may be used as a sedative or at the start of general anesthesia (ga); etomidate is used mostly in ga. Propofol lowers blood pressure more. Etomidate may be used for stable BP in trauma or heart surgery. Both can reduce or stop breathing and must be given under anesthesiologist supervision  with careful monitoring.

Etomidate comes in a 35% solution with propylene glycol which might give a false positive depending on the assay method, but this would not last long, would not likely be high and there would not likely be any concern of etoh intake around the time of etomidate or succ use.

One of the most authorities sources on medications, lexi drugs states: "neuromuscular ; skeletal: myoclonus (33%), transient skeletal movements, uncontrolled eye movements". Therefore, it is safe to say that etomidate is not known to cause seizures.

Rare: Most of the time etomidate is used with other drugs for the induction of general anesthesia. Vomiting in postoperative period is multifactorial. Causes could be etomidate, narcotics, surgical stimulus , other drugs, stress, changes in blood pressure.  Usually impossible to single out.  I did not see increased incidence of vomiting due to use of etomidate vs. Propofol, no scientific proof.

Drug: Propofol is a sedative hypnotic while Etomidate is a non-barbiturate hypnotic. Etomidate does have an effect on the adrenal glands and this may cause more nausea.
