How big is glass: One drink of spirits such as gin would be 1.5 oz. If this is all very unlikely you would have alcoholism. However people with alcohol problems can be crafty. Their one gin and tonic may be out of a 24oz tumbler. But they can gladly tell everyone. "i just have one drink per night" hope that helps. Not to be cynical but it does happen.

CAGE Questionnaire: Ask yourself these questions: 1) do you feel the need to cut back on your drinking? 2) are you annoyed when others ask you to stop? 3) do you feel guilty about drinking? 4) do you need an "eye-opener" drink in the morning to get going? More than one 'yes' response to any of these questions raises suspicion of alcohol abuse.

Probably not: There is no exact test for alcoholism.  In general the cage questioneer can be helpful.  If you have felt a need to cut down on your drinking, been angry when others have said you drink too much, felt guilty about you drinking, or needed an eye opener drink in the morning, you may have a problem.

Safety unclear: Fetal alcohol syndrome is usually linked to heavy alcohol intake. As alcohol is known to cause adverse effects on developing brains, minimizing exposure of the fetus is important.  We do not know the safe level, or even if there is a safe amount that can be consumed. Therefore, the recommendation is to avoid routine alcohol use during the entire pregnancy.

Not necessarily: More concerning is what your intention is for drinking the wine before bed.  If it is to help you fall asleep, then my response would be that you are probably trying to mask another underlying problem (e.g. Sleep apnea, depression, etc) or some other issue.  Alcohol can actually have a rebound stimulant effect once metabolized, and can cause further sleep problems.  See your doctor.

Alcohol: There was. A great public-service commercial and it said "if you think you have a problem with drinking you do." i' m sorry you need to ask this question. I try to approach it by asking people why they are drinking or why they're doing any drug. Men are not supposed to drink more than three drinks a day.  But even one can be a problem for some.  There is much easily accessible extensive reliable material about this.

Yes.: Alcohol suppresses your ability to deal with stressful situations and lowers your stress threshhold. Pretty soon everything becomes a stressful situation that calls for a drink.

Accepted Answer

It depends: If this has happened only once and you do not drink frequently, you are probably not an alcoholic.  Most alcoholics drink on a daily basis.  However, blackouts are a dangerous consequence from drinking too much.  The next step in intoxication can be supressed breathing and death.  If you cannot use alcohol in moderation, then you are a problem drinker and should seek professional help to stop.
