Symptoms and test: Chicken meat allergy is either uncommon or under reported.  Intolerance symptoms are GI with nausea, abdominal pain, gassiness and diarrhea. A chicken skin test would be negative.  True allergy (ige) symptoms are hives, wheezing, anaphylaxis and can include GI symptoms.  A skin test would be negative.  An allergist can assist in helping you determine if allergy or intolerance.

It can happen!: A person could be allergic to anything -- any type of food, medicine, environmental allergen, etc.  Your doctor can tell you how to make sure you avoid exposure to what you're allergic to, and what to do if you accidentally do get exposed to it.

Bird allergy: I assume when you mention chicken and bird allergy, it means you have feather allergy and not food allergy to chicken and bird meat. There are currently no available or approved treatment for food allergy except avoiding it. For feather allergy and allergy treatment in general, it comprises of avoidance the allergens, taking allergy medications, and desensitization. A local allergist could help.

Chicken allergy: Chicken allergy is an immunologic reaction to consumption of chicken.  Some children will have a condition known as food protein induced enterocolitis in which they developed delayed symptoms of diarrhea and abdominal pain hours after consumption of chicken.  Others may have an immediate allergic reaction via an ige mediated mechanism characterized by hives, itch, swelling, cough, wheeze, vomiting.

Depends: Chicken allergy is not related to egg allergy. A patient could be allergic to both. Check with your allergist.  Someone who has egg allergy does not necessarily have any other allergy (including chicken). Chicken allergy is not common. Check with your allergist.

Avoidance: For now, assessment by an allergist is important, to make sure it is real allergy to seafood or chicken or just the additives,  epinephrine injectin plus oral antihistamines should be kept handy, your doctor would prescribe the dosage for your child, goodluck
