my 7 week old has severe gas. he just had hernia surgery, and i'm afraid hrs will have another. he grunts all day and night. any suggestions?

Call your Dr.: It is very low risk to get another hernia after surgey, despite the grunting an increased abdominal pressure. Call your pediatrician to see if there is an acceptable anti-gas formula for kids such as simethicone. Any concerns about the operation, call the surgeon that did the operation.

i have had crohn's surgery and hernia surgery. now i have very painful gas. any idea why this is happening and/or what i should do?

Try anti-gas meds: I would try a simple anti-gas preparation that has simethicone in it. If this doesn't work, you should probably see your gastroenterologist managing your crohn's disease.

6 weeks since open mesh inguinial hernia surgery. back to exercising but get stabs of pain in hardened area beneath scar when i have gas. reoccurance?

Unlikely: To have a hernia recurrence. Sharp discomforts that come and go and deep scar firmness are common & temporary findings after inguinal hernia surgery. Call and make an appointment to be examined by your surgeon to be sure.

does it ever happen that a hiatal hernia make passing gas difficult?

Accepted Answer

Not unless: It is an incarcerated paraesophageal type of hiatal hernia.  The usual sliding type involves on the esophagus and proximal stomach, so it should not affect your colon function.  A paraesophageal hiatal hernia has a propensity for serious complications, sometimes even fatal, so have your GI specialist or surgeon take a look.

i have an umbilical hernia that came back i have had it longer than 8 years i have been hurting right side around my ribs hard to pass gas scared?

Time: To see a doctor. It is rare but possible to have a trapped or incarcerated henia. Do not wait for an emergency to occur. See a doctor for an exam soon or go to an er if your pain does not improve.

i have an umbilical hernia, but ive been feeling pain on my right side, right next to my belly button, if i am going to get up from my bed and if i get in all 4 in my bed it hurts.i can pass gas.  can it be the hernia, appendicitis or something else?

Strangulated hernia: Incarcerated hernia refers to one that won't go back or return to normal. Strangulated means lack of blood supply. Either way, you need to get it repaired now as it's no longer an elective operation but rather an emergent one. So go to ER now - have someone take you. Do not wait to see if it will resolve. This is not a condition for online care. You can die if you wait . . .

Ventral hernia: is possible at the site of previous inguinal hernia, because the abdominal muscles are somewhat weakened after the original surgery. it may also be another inguinal hernia.

why is gas painful after incarcerated abd wall hernia?

Gas: If you have an incarcerated hernia, gas gets trapped in the incarcerated loop and applies pressure on the walls. This may cause pain. Also, an incarcerated bowel's blood supply gets compromised and that adds up to the pain.
