Persistent cough: For cough that persists after treatment of simple bronchitis, the most common cause is "asthmatic bronchitis" where the inflammation  causes bronchospasm and wheezing. The use of an inhaled bronchodilator like albuterol will help. The other potential cause is the possibility of pertussis (whooping) cough with spasms of cough bad enough to make you feel like you're about to pass out.

i have bronchitis. ive taken amoxicillin for 3 days - today is day 4. was coughing  green phlegm, not now. am i getting better..still hurts to cough?

Improvement: It hurts when you cough because your bronchi are irritated. Use a humidifier when sleeping

i went to the emergency room on friday i was excused from for a couple days... 
im following up because i still dont feel 
can i please have some cough medicine

Should contact Dr.: Wrong forum. This is our free, public, informational forum. No medical care is provided here. That said, one's doctor will want to know if a patient is not doing better. A change in therapy might be needed, if not doing better. However, if feeling better but some symptoms have not improved, the doctor might just continue the same therapy and have the patient report back after a couple of days.

had strep august. painful red throat,headache,fever,congested. took amoxicillin 875mg once a day 7 days got sick again last week bad cough cant eat,fever,congested. on amox liquid 400mg 6ml 2x a day. throat at sides still red why? is it still strep?

: I wonder if it was a documented Strept infection, however it looks like you did not have adequate dosing. It should have been twice daily; and the reoccurence may be because of inadequate treatment or it could be that the sore throat is due to a bacteria that is not sensitive to amoxicillin and a different antibiotic with adequate course of treatment may be beneficial. Sinusitis is possible.

couple of weeks ago i was prescribed with amoxicillin 500mg 3 per day for 10 days for my cough. no fever, no pain but just the cough with brownish mucus. but i m not over with it yet. still coughing and color of mucus looks same. please advise. ?

Revisit ur doctor : Or seek a second opinion in person, cough  have several causes other than infection, and amoxicillin might not be the right choice for your case, although it is rightfully prescribed in most cases as first line treatment, best wishes

diagnosed with strep throat on sunday  still not feeling better amoxicillin for 3 days now i have a cough n throat still soar and swollen?

Strep throat: If after taking Amoxicillin for 3 days and your throat is still sore, you have more going on than just strep.  If you develop cold like symptoms, you have a viral upper respiratory infection. Good chance you were colonized with Strep and it was not the cause of the sore throat from the start.  Strep throats do not lead to cough and nasal congestion.

I would: You've been patient. It's possible that there is something else that needs attention and relief. Pay attention to your life-style too. Are you drinking enough water, eating healthy, getting good rest? Not smoking or taking too much alcohol is helpful. Symptoms can become chronic and you're wise to keep that from happening if you can. Best!

i had strep throat with a middle ear infection for 18 days. i completed an amoxicillin course of 20 tablets, and because of the middle ear i had to do myringotomy too, but even after that i still have a phlegm cough , and sore throat. is this serious?

: Many of these infections involve a respiratory virus along with strep. The strep dies off with penicillin based drugs like amoxicillin, Residual cough &amp; symptoms are likely just the added effect of the viral process that will self heal over time. If this interferes with life or work get re-checked.

just found out that i am pregnant, i've been taking amoxicillin for a bad cold i got. is it safe to continue taking it? i still have a bad cough.

Not a problem: Amoxicillin is not likely to help your cold if that is what it is, nor will it harm your baby.  If you do not really need the Amoxicillin would stop it now. There are several potential side-effects for you (not your baby) that are unnecessary to risk. Good luck and have a great baby.
