i have acne but it only prone to right side of face. couldn't hardly see one on my left side. why ?

Can happen: Occasionally a patient will have abnormal oil glands on one side of the face. This will cause the acne to be on one side of the face.

Yes: It is possible that this has become a skin infection, cellulitis or even an early abscess. If it continues to worsen see your doctor for an exam.

See a dermatologist: Tretinoin (Retin A) or adapalene prescription will reduce the acne and the post-inflamatory hyperpigmentation. Depending on the severity of the acne, as well as your emotional reaction to it, you may also consider prescription SPIRONLACTONE, an antiandrogen. Very effective. Very safe except not if pregnant or in kidney failure.

: Acne at 39 indicates hormonal imbalances. Diets high in simple carbs/sugars can contribute, as can weight gain. Wash your face no more than twice a day, use a mild soap. apply acne treatments only to problem spots, not your whole face. A dermatologist may prescribe spironolactone or a low dose antibiotic. Avoid picking at/squeezing pimples and maintain good hygiene incl. washing pillowcases/towels

Patients who receive a lower dose relapse more frequently. Daily dosage depends on how much the patient weighs; 0.5 mg - 2 mg/kg is typical.15

Unusual: Acne is usually from systemic effects of your body's hormones, so being on only one side of the face is unusual but may not mean anything. Things that can increase the likelihood of one-sided acne can be occlusion of that side if you rest your face on your hands or on a pillow, etc more than the other side.Gentle skin care, soap/water, otc meds like benzoyl peroxide. Get advice as acne can embarass.

Serious Rx: Whatever the distribution, your best friend is topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated. If you're not clear in two weeks, get with your personal physician who can add prescription-strength rx. Best wishes.

Oil acne: Oils are known to produce acne. Don' t use any product such as hair pomades that use acne .For now use benzyl peroxide for two weeks no if no improvement see a dermatologist.
