No: Not contradiction, rather complementing each other, antihistamines act as cough suppressants besides help decrease excessive secretions, expectorants rather loosen the thick secretions helping to get rid of them, that's why plain water is the best expectorant

Bronchitis: That is a powerful med, usually will give if intractable cough and no other relief. If you want to put on shelf for later date OK. I would suggest OTC, Delsym and regular Mucinex. Fluids and actually lemon in water is a good expectorant. Ibuprofen for discomfort.

Antitussive: If you are using dextromethorphan containing syrup and that does not work, try some with Codeine in it.  If you are in india, would worry about tuberculosis. The issue is why you are coughing.  This could be an atypical pneumonia including mycoplasma, chlamydia, legionella, adult perussis, and so on.

Pediatric fever: If the baby is not feeding properly, continuously irritable, sleeping excessively, or behaving quite differently than they do normally it would be prudent to have them seen and re-examined by the pediatrician.

Perhaps: Expectorants help to loosen mucous and let you cough it up easier.  Supressants help with the annoyance of coughing.  Coughing is good unless you cough to the point of vomiting or not being able to rest or sleep.  Both seem to been of help but most colds stop on their own with plenty of rest and fluids.  Humidification helps as well.
