Depends: Bartholin abscess is usually incised and drained at first diagnosis.  Recurrence in less than 6 months usually leads to marsupialization procedure.  New or recurrent symptoms in the Bartholin's gland after age 40 usually will lead to consideration of removal of the gland, due to increased risk for cancer.

Abscess:I&D Vs cyst: There is a big difference between an cyst or abscess ( which is essentially an infected cyst). The goal of abscess treatment is to drain the collection and resolve the infection. Removal is difficult, painful, and complicated when infected, however prior to infection or once the infection has been treated, then surgical removal is commonly performed of the cyst and is a preferable option.

Bartholin's Cyst: If they aren't completely removed, can tend to recur...An option is having a catheter placed that has a small balloon in it to allow your body to make a permanent fistula (bigger permanent hole) that will allow it to drain--it is removed after a while, and hopefully will not become re-infected again.  Talk to your gyn about that type of surgical procedure.

Emergency: An infected tooth is an emergency.  If there&#x27;s pain, bleeding, swelling, fever, it&#x27;s an emergency.  I;d and/or antibiotics may help limit spread of infection, but only root canal treatment or extraction will cure the infection.  Course of treatment depends on your dentist&#x27;s diagnostic findings.  Follow your dentist&#x27;s instructions to the letter.

No need to worry: If you keep the area clean with soap and water, it is unlikely to become infected. It sounds like you're doing everything just right! If you notice increased redness, swelling, or drainage from the area, you should be evaluated by a doctor for a possible wound infection.

Tennis is too active.
