what is granular pattern in the liver means in ultrasound results?

Coarse appearance?: Granular may mean a coarse appearance, instead of a smooth appearance; or an appearance containing little irregularities rather than a homogenous even appearance. The doctor can review the entire report and the summary findings with the patient, to see if there is concern of cirrhosis, fatty liver, or some other disorder.

Liver ultrasound: The size is normal but Heterogeneity could be due to fatty liver. Losing weight, decrease fat intake, avoiding Alcohol, treating high triglyceride should help.

Uncertain: Abnormal liver tests can have a number of different causes, not all of which have to do with the liver (muscle, injury, for example, can raise some liver tests; disease of the pancreas can raise different liver tests).  If you would, please ask the question again, stating which liver test you are referring to.

i got my ultrasound results back, and show that i have a fatty liver enlarged, and worried, haven't slept for 2 days.

Fatty liver...: A fatty liver on ultrasound is fairly common. Have you had liver function testing (blood test)? The important step to take is to avoid meds that are liver metabolized as much as possible. And, to only drink alcohol in moderation. See your doctor to review your med list and to check liver function tests, if not already done. If  overweight, weight loss may help.

last physical showed possible fatty liver. this whole week had pain in right abdomen/back. ultrasound results pending. how concerned should i be?

Need other tests: You need imaging and lab tests to confirm that.....the pain not necessarily from your fatty liver....however, most fatty livers....particularly early on and depending on the type of fat and the causes.....are reversabl....go and check it out.....discuss with your doctor including diet, exercise, weight loss etc

Possibly diet: Liver is affect by what we eat. For example alcohol can cause that appearance . Fatty foods also change the texture of the liver. There are various illness that also can change the liver. It is best talk to your doctor to see if there is an underlying reason. Sometimes it is just the way it is

Not entirely: Fatty liver occurs thru delivery of dietary fat/fatty acids to liver, excess carbohydrate, impaired export of triglyceride from liver cells, &amp; augmented trigylceride production. If at risk, or NASH is suspected without biopsy confirmation, fix it by controlling diabetes, obesity, cholesterol, &amp; avoid alcohol.

Benign liver disease: This description of echotexture describes the relative level of echogenicity (ability to bounce an echo wave) of the liver. Assessment of liver echogenicity is of value for assessing moderate to pronounced fatty infiltration but is not reliable for diagnosing fibrosis. Smooth external outline means there is not cirrhosis. See your MD for additional testing and treatment for fatty liver
