i can feel my abdominal pulse just by laying my hand over it; when i push on it i hear a whooshing sound and i can feel the blood flow. normal?

It could be normal : However it could also be a sign of aortic aneurysm (widening of the aorta) & renal artery stenosis (narrowing) - these conditions are uncommon among young people unless they're chronic smokers and have a strong family history of cardiovascular or renal conditions. You may need imaging studies to confirm them. See your dr for any concerns. Take care!

36 yrs old, slim and very athletic. stomach pain behind belly button, strong abdominal pulse, and pain in lumbar. have had 2 ultrasounds and nothing abnormal but not sure if they checked the aa - would they see this on a standard ultrasound?

Aortic pulse
: It sounds like you're feeling the aortic pulse. This isn't abnormal and isn't a problem in young slender persons. Aorta easily visualized on most ultrasounds &amp; likely seen on your tests, but can't be certain without seeing the images (ask your doctor if it was seen). Disease of the aorta at age 36 is very unusual (generally occurs in older persons). Source of pain probably not related to aorta.

abdominal aorta pulses visibly. has been visible since 2021 or so. very easy to feel the pulse. no pain, rash, etc. short of breath easily (almost certainly due to asthma), bleeds easily, is going to a rheumatologist about connective tissue symptoms?

: In thin people, sometimes a pulse is visible due to blood vessels. A rheumatologist will be able to assess for connective tissue diseases as well as autoimmune disorders so seeing a rheumatologist will likely be helpful. Good luck!

It can be normal.: The abdominal aorta is a very large blood vessel, and whereas in the chest it is hidden by the sternum/rib cage, in your abdomen it is covered by the intestines and soft internal organs, which vibrate when your blood pulses through the aorta. So yes, if you are thin and there isn't a lot of fat on your abdomen, you will feel/see the faint pulsations of this great blood vessel.

Belly button pain: First question is what is your body type? If you are thin, the abdominal aorta can be easily felt and is pulsatile, but should not necessarily cause pain. Have you had abdominal surgeries in the past such as your gallbladder removed? This is generally done through small incisions, one being near your belly button.  As to the other causes of pain, it could be muscle wall pain, unlikely ulcer, etc.

Probably normal: The aorta is a very large blood vessel that carries blood from your heart to your lower torso and legs. If you have a thin abdominal wall, it is not unusual to feel a pulsation in your aorta with each heart beat. This is normal. Sometimes, this pulsation can be abnormal (aneurysm) if it is very prominent or if you can feel it through an obese abdominal wall. Your doctor can check with ultrasound.

Ultrasound to check: A pulse in the abdomen is probably just blood moving through your aorta with each heart beat. This is normal and can be felt if you relax a thin abdominal wall. However, if you are obese, or if the pulsation is very prominent, this can be an aortic aneurysm which can be dangerous.  This is checked by a physician with ultrasound. With family history of aneurysm or smoking, there is higher risk.

Yes: It is the abdominal aorta.  In fact, if you had someone place their ear on your abdomen they would hear the "whoosing" sound of the blood flow in the abdominal aorta.  It may also feel "enlarged, " but if you are thin, it is not a problem.

Yes: You are young thin body man . If you lie down on your abdomen , pulsation from ABDOMINAL AORTA transmits to surface you lying on as feeling of pulsations. It is especially common in thin people.. Aorta is biggest artery  running through abdomen . Condition as AAA- abdominal aortic aneurysm is very unlikely in your age. Unless rare genetic condition " Marfan syndrome".
