why do i experience intense abdominal muscle pain and cramping while running?

Common problem.: Many people get abd muscle cramping while running.  A lot of times it has to do with what you had to eat (and how soon you ate) prior to the run.  Also, the abd muscles work hard during running - they provide core stability.  If you are new to running or haven't run in awhile, it could take a few weeks before your abs feel better.  Start low and go slow.  Good luck!

Stitch: If it is just under your ribcage, it is commonly referred to as a "stitch". It is a spasbm of your diaphragm muscle which you use to breath. Many people press on the area to help it go away. Best to stop and walk until it passes. As you continue to run on a regular basis this should pass. Good Luck. (USAT Level I coach)

Monitor...: Dear GCollier,  in the left lower abdomen we usually think large intestine but it can be other things.  This simply could be constipation.  Monitor is the pain progresses, travels to the right side or down to your groin, examine your skin, check for fever, nausea and look at your stool and urine.  I hope it's nothing...

Food intolerance: As long as she's sure she isn't pregnant(which would require immediate medical attention), daily abdominal cramping can be caused by food intolerances such as lactose intolerance or celiac disease. Constipation and irritable bowel syndrome is another common problem. If this has been an issue for more than a few days, it should be checked out by a doctor.

Muscle spasms: I wold describe this as abdominal muscle spasms, similar to leg cramps or charley horse.episodes. They may occur from muscle strain or fatigue. I expect these to subside but if they persist and there is no evidence of abdominal muscle pathology or gastrointestinal symptoms,I recommend consulting a neurologist for evaluation as trivial motions are precipitating these spasms.

BM urgency ,cramps: May be constipation , irritable bowel or early inflammatory bowel,   or  food intolerances .any blood? mucus? diarrhea? Hard stool?   How many BM a day? Would follow up w/ doctor

Doubled over: If the pain is that severe and you have a fever, you should call your pcp who will likely suggest you go to your local emergency department.  If you don't have a pcp, you can google for a nearby walk-in clinic or simply go to your local emergency department if your symptoms are worsening.

i'm having pain in my right abdomen and in my back. i am also puking every time i take a drink or eat. and running a fever. what is going on?

Get to the hospital: You may have appendicitis or something less serious like a viral infection in your digestive tract.  If you can't hold down water, you must get yourself to the nearest hospital (not urgent care) so appropriate tests can be done and you don't become dehydrated.  Good luck.
