Damage to the amygdala can have either stimulatory (fear-enhancing) or inhibitory (fear-negating) effects; either of which can be quite impairing. Other aspects of mood and behavior can be affected. Epilepsy is not infrequently a byproduct of amygdalar damage.

Neurotransmitters: Medicines like Zoloft/Lexapro are serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Wellbutrin (bupropion) inhibits the uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine. Whether it is anxiety, irritability, anger, short fuse, or depression; these medicines regulate neurotransmitters in the brain to improve symptoms of insomnia, guilty feelings, poor concentration, fatigue, appetite disturbance, and lack of drive/interests.

Stress feedback loop: The amygdala is part of the limbic system of your brain.  The limbic system responds to and regulates emotion; the amygdala assigns emotional "valence" to stimuli.  It registers whether stimuli are threatening, leading to fight-flight responses.  The adrenal can secrete stress hormones in response to all this, such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, and cortisol.

The Amygdala: is that part of brain that focuses on survival triggering such emotions as fear and anger.  Rather than concentrating on neuro-anatomy, might be more practical to focus on the source of your anxiety.  Anxiety disorders can be treated w/modalities such as psychotherapy and clinical hypnosis, relaxation training,  etc.  If a professional give you medication, please don't stop there. Confusing?: Did a real physician actually tell you that?  Have no clue what this absurd comment means, but are we talking about emotional issues?  And yes, fixes are available but see a competent physician and get this straightened out

: Nothing of importance. The structure within the brain is credited with processing emotional/behavior issues among other things. It is likely his/her way of trying to simplify the idea that it is not functioning as expected. It does not suggest a specific cause.

Network analysis: Neural networks exist in the brain subserving certain functions, often specific to that network. Anterior cingulate (acc) and amygdala are in one such circuit. Disrupting communications between the two will cause changes in each component. Re-establishment of communications by re-wiring the brain (plasticity) may cause restoration of function but it may be abnormal-hence altered emotionality.

Find the cause: The amygdala is a part of the brain that plays a part in memory, decision-making, and emotional reactions. If you have concerns about any of these cognitive or emotional issues,  you would do well to consult with your pcp, who then may refer you to a mental health professional to help clarify what you wish to heal.  There is no supplement I'm aware of that "heals the amygdala." I hope this helps.
