Itching in the night: Might just be winter dryness and the scratches from your child's nails.  Try to file down her nails and apply lots of moisturizers on the skin especially after bathing. any creams or even cooking oil will do. Kids tend to get very dry skin especially in the winter with the indoor heat. Sometimes they just need extra moisture in the winter.

Rash: The differential of an itchy rash is very large. Try to describe it. Is it red and scaly? Flat or raised with fluid filled blisters? Is it scaly? In your body folds? Itchy rashes have several causes, urticaria, or hives, are very common and usually indicate an allergic reaction. A picture is worth a thousand words when discussing a rash. Know the timing of onset and the evolution of the rash.

Depends: Hives are raised and usually itchy. They usually subside in less than 24 hrs.   Are these what you have?  If not, then they are rash which can be caused by many things including viral infection.  If they don't itch, Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will not do you much good.  See doctor if the problem persists for more than a few weeks or is getting worse.

That means a rash that persists or is worrisome in appearance should be examined. Treatment usually depends on the type of rash. A video doctor consultation may help.
