Infection?: We wish we could answer these questions over the internet. However, without actually seeing you clinically along with an x-ray, we can't know exactly what is wrong. Perhaps: Sounds like a mucocele, a partially blocked minor salivary gland.  But there are other possibilities as well.  See your Dentist or an Oral Surgeon at one of those times when the lump is swollen.

See your dentist: It was not indicated what type of doctor you've seen, if you were diagnosed in the past. Cysts, growth, lumps,..when detected are usually sent for biopsy when removal e.g. by an oral surgeon is required to name the type of lesion.
