i woke up with 96.6 degree body temperature. what's the lowest it should be before i worry? i know 98.6 is the 'norm'.

Not to worry: It is normal for the body&#x27;s temperature to drop overnight.  Many of the metabolic functions go into a baseline mode, so less energy is needed and thus less heat produced.  Understand also that an oral temperature is influenced by many factors and may not accurately reflect the core temperature.  Don&#x27;t worry too much about a low oral reading if you are feeling ok otherwise.

Normal temperature: Everyone’s body temperature varies between about 96F and 99F, generally highest in the afternoon and evening and lowest in the first half of the day, typically averaging 98.6F. You own average temperature might be slightly different, but whatever it is, variations like this are perfectly normal.

Accepted Answer

No: Doctors prefer to look at signs and symptoms instead of a number from a thermometer.  We don't worry about a temperature in the 98 degree range in a normal person.

Subnormal: Temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit is considered normal.  When the temp goes lower you may have an infection, be dying or could be in need of a new thermometer.  More information would be needed to get to a working diagnosis.

No problem: Many (if not all) people have normal temperatures that are below the "normal 98.6.".

Stop checking: If you are otherwise well, stop checking temperature. It doesn't mean anything by itself.

Temperature changes: Most people have a range in which their normal temperature varies. Without symptoms, this may be normal for you.

is it bad to have your ac on in your car full blast and then get off to 108 degrees f?  can you get sick changing your body temperature so rapidly?

Not really: This appears to be similar to hot and cold showers, which are very healthy. It increases and decreases your arterial diameter. It may actually be good for you. But I am not aware of any study that has looked at that. You may find something on google scholar. 

With any underlying disease, such as high blood pressure, you must check with your doc!

can i use my hot tub at 35 degrees, body temp is 36.6 so it won't raise my temperature, so i don't see it being a concern, and it is clean is this ok?
