i was 9 weeks pregnant had a missed miscarriage. 
gynae performed a d&c last week monday, this saturday started heavy bleeding and blood clots some big some small are coming out. is it normal? and 4 how long will it go on?

Accepted Answer

Not normal: Clots represent heavy bleeding,  this needs evaluation. You can become anemic with this much loss.  Testing/ultrasound/possible hysteroscope can be helpful in getting this controlled.

No, see OB.: Sexual arousal or even having sex will not harm the baby. Sex may cause complications in case the placenta is low in the uterus. Occasional mild bleeding in pregnancy is not uncommon. If is persists, you should consult your OB. I trust that for the sake of your and your baby's health you are seeing an OB.

Be seen: This cannot be determined from your description.  You need to be seen and obtain an ultrasound.   Take prenatal vitamins in any event.

Common, not normal: You are at much higher risk for a miscarriage although it is still possible to have a perfectly normal pregnancy. You need to be followed with pregnancy hormone levels and  sonograms (ultrasounds).

Very difficult : And would require a microscope.  An easier way is to measure the pregnancy hormone, hcg, in the mother's blood and then measure it again 2-3 days later.  If pregnant, it should increase (usually doubles every 3 days in early pregnancy).

Also, depending on how many weeks pregnant (at least 4-5 weeks), transvaginal ultrasound may show evidence of an intrauterine pregnancy.

May happen: It takes a while for the pregnancy test to become negative after a spontaneous miscarriage. If your bleeding is heavy such that you are changing a pad every hour or so, your should let your OB/GYN know.

Not normal please: Call your OB now if you are early that usually means you are having a misc., if later please call your OB asap, as that usually means a placental abruption or placenta previa both of which are emergencies.

See your Ob: If you are pregnant and bleeding, you should see your Ob right away.  Bleeding can be a sign of a miscarriage or other problem.

: See your OB doc as soon as possible. You will need a vaginal ultrasound done even if you had one done within the last 5 weeks. In the meantime, bed rest and avoid vigorous activity.
