transitional lumbosacral anatomy. the inferiormost, well- formed disc space is labeled l5-s1. mild retrolisthesis of l5 on s1. minimal retrolisthesis of l4 on l5. the lumbar vertebrae are normal in height. would this cause me pain? what does it mean?

: Retrolisthesis is a relatively uncommon finding by spine X-ray. This condition does not often cause any symptom but neck or back pain can be a presenting symptom. In general, the observed X- ray change may not correlate well with the symptom. Ur parents should: B asking this. But 4 Ur information, there R usually the same # of vertebrae, so U may have an extra thoracic or cervical 1. If U R having lots of low back pain, ask Ur parents 2 make an appointment with a spinal surgeon.

my son fractured l1 & l5 vertebrae and is experiencing upper body tremors. we have had head, neck, and back mri to rule out other injuries.

Upper Body Tremors: Hello. No previous history prior to fractures of  upper body tremors? What did his MRIs show specifically of his neck? Did he have one of his thoracic spine?  Do tremors involve arms AND chest (torso)? Is this the 1st time he has taken Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl)?  Tremor can be seen with Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) but it is RARE. Tremors usually occur with overdose of Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl).  Is he taking any narcotics too for pain control?

There : There are many treatment for vertebral body fractures and the specific treatment depends on the amount of compression of the vertebral body, if the body is pressing on nerves, if the spine is falling apart, the presence of other fractures, etc.  Therefore it is difficult to know the exact treatment you would need.  In general there are two types of treatments:

1. Kyphoplasty - the fracture is bone is made taller and filled with plastic through a large needle

2. Corpectomy - removal of the vertebral body and replacement with cage to remake the vertebral body and hold it together with screws and rods.  This is usually done open but there are minimally invasive options being developed.

These procedures may be done alone, combined or only part of the procedure done.  They may need to be done at one or many levels depending on what is fractured.

Schmorl's Node: Most schmorl's nodes are asymptomatic, but anything in the wrong place with a mass that can cause compression of a nerve or on a nerve can theoretically cause pain.

Disc herniating: Sounds like possible limbus vertebra at 5th lumbar vertebra at lower back. Limbus vertebra is  defect in the anterior margin of the vertebral body where disc material herniates. Sometimes but less often posterior in location. Anterior herniation usually asymptomatic but posterior herniation can be symptomatic.
