Counting the weeks: Conception time is estimated as 2 weeks after the "start of the pregnancy" when doctors are counting the weeks.  All dates are only estimates.  If a pregnancy is counted starting from August 3rd, conception is about 2 weeks later in mid-August.

i'm 40 weeks pregnant and have not had any contractions in 3 weeks. i'm only 1cm dilated & 90% effaced how can i bring on contractions to help dilate?

Talk to UR obstetrii: Postdated pregnancy?  , if true by the usg estimation of gestation , talk to ur obs. Doc. After waiting for few  day, less than a wk , they may plan induction of labor- medication induced vs caesar.S based on  pelvic findings, any foetal distress, failure of induction with medications .There are still chance sthat your pregnancy can end up successfully in a normal labor. With 90 % effacement already.

three centimeters is great!
the best way to safely induce or encourage maybe is a better word labor at home is intercourse.  The semen contains prostaglandins in small amounts.  Prostaglandins are what providers use to induce labor in some cases.  Put your baby-daddy to work!  if your water breaks though, then stop and call your provider.

Postdates: Current standard if this is your first baby and there are no medical problems with you or baby is to wait until at least 41 weeks.

Pregnancy: That is one of the great questions of our time.  All I know is babies never stay in they always come out.  Not to be flippant, but your baby will come when it is ready or when your doctor decides you meet the criteria for induction.  Good luck!

Any moment now...: If truly 40 weeks and 2 days, labor will happen when it happens, which is any day or any moment now. Due dates are just estimates, and most babies are not born on their due dates but instead are born before or after their due dates. That's the way life is. Otherwise, the Ob-Gyn doctor may induce labor or do a C-section.
