There can: be a "rebound" stopping PPI's (Proton Pump Inhibitors) "cold turkey" Your "plan" sounds good! BTW ZANTAC or TAGAMET can also help with any "breakthrough" heartburn!

BTW You should inform your Prescriber that you are discontinuing the drug..RARELY that's NOT a good idea!

No problem!: You may safely take Nexium and Amoxicillin together without any untoward reaction.

i take 40 mg nexium (esomeprazole) a day for 7 years i am 29 i have a hiatal hernia he said its a safe drug he is a doc that handles these things is he right worried?

Yes and no...: No drug is perfect, &amp; pros of long term use of acid blockade need to balance against cons (bone fractures, low magnesium, C.difficile infection). H2 blockers (tagamet, zantac, (ranitidine) pepcid) have been around since the late 70's, are safe, but may require increasing doses to achieve acid suppression. Proton pump inhibitors (ppi's) are also generally safe, but talk to your doc about lowest effective dose.

Diet first: The diet is one of the most important treatments in GERD-avoiding trigger foods, such as coffee, alcohol, spicy foods, fatty foods etc, all of which can increase acid production. Follow-up with the Dr. and see if you need any further testing.  After testing, if found to be certain hyper secretory conditions, you may need the medications twice a day for a period of time. on 27 mg concerta and 40 mg nexium (esomeprazole). had yellow stools this week. worried about liver damage? happened b4 starting meds too, but blood work didn't indicate any hepatic or renal issues.

Fat malabsorption?: If your stool is floating, think fat malabsorption.  Also, depends on what your eating.

Nexium: If  you break a timed release capsule in half it would effect the release of the medication. I have been told it  tastes pretty bad if not in capsule.

Slow release med: Cannot be crushed or split.  The distribution of the medication will be not be even.
