Some basics: Kids with poor sleep habits, irregular routines or who fight to stay awake are more likely to have sleep issues of various types. Night terrors often occur at 2-3 hrs into the night.They awake fighting &amp; would re-settle into sleep if left alone. If you wake them thinking it is a nightmare they will be confused/difficult. Earlier bedtime &amp; leaving them alone can help this pass. Or see the doc.

my 4 year old constantly grinds/grits his teeth in his sleep. what could be the reason for this?

Accepted Answer

Normal: Many children grind their teeth at night. It is not uncommon or concerning under ten years old unless your child is literally grinding down his teeth. You can have him checked for pinworms as well..It is not a myth. The worms irritate the anus at night and cause itching that leads to grinding. I do not see this as a common cause for tooth grinding but it is worth exploring.

my 4 year old daughter suffers from chronic reflex which manifests as coughing & disturbs her sleep. what can we do?

Has she seen GI?: I would advise that your daughter be seen by a gastroenterologist for evaluation of her symptoms.  There are medications that can be used to help alleviate the symptoms.  In addition, elevating her head at night may provide some symptomatic relief.  Working to find the cause and prevent symptoms would be my recommendation for long-term care.

Teitching: The twitching may be reflexive but it might also represent seizure activity.. Discuss the problem woth your pediatrician. He may want to order aneeg.

See doc...: First, make sure that her home environment is safe....And install temporary locks high up so she cannot reach etc...Of course to use at night while she is asleep.
If there is a strong family history of this, she may get better later on. In the meantime, get her evaluated to make sure all is ok..

eating and sleeping well.
is it okay to send him to school for a hour or 2 at this stage?

my 4 year old son has a 102 temp. no other symptoms. i gave him motrin 45 min. ago. he's sleeping now but his temp still hasn't reduced! what can i do?

Tylenol (acetaminophen): You can give tylenol (acetaminophen) soon after, both meds are anti-pyretics, in that they reduce fever. If it continues, regardless of other symptoms have him seen by pediatrician.

my 4 year old just admitted to chewing both his and his sister's 5mg children's claritin (loratadine). does that warrant a trip to the er? or just sleep it off?

No need: He'll be fine, please check the remaining tablets to make sure he didn't consume more, observe for any abnormal symptoms for the next 24 hours, I trust you are known of medicines safety and keeping away from children, child-proof boxes, etc.., good luck

Not much to offer: I've not seen any specific product or medication that ever changed this pattern in a kid. Over time, if the process begins to wear down teeth, a pediatric dentist has occasionally put in stainless caps over the rear molars that separates the teeth slightly & prevents further wearing on other frontal teeth.(but does not stop the noise).
