Why delay ??: Delay means simply loss of protection.Somewhat like driving without insurance. Delay doesn't mean you must start over at some point, it just means the kid remains vulnerable to the diseases they prevent during a period when their body is more vulnerable to the effect of those illnesses.The schedules are based on how early effective protective levels can be provided by the vaccines.

our infant did not receive the hepatitis b vaccine at birth - is it okay to give the first dose with all the other vaccines at 2 months? or is it worth spacing it out? is there any benefit to spacing vaccines out vs. all at once?

: I find the infants just as mad/pissed with one shot as 3-4 &amp; their recovery from each session the same. Studies cite an infant challenges their immune system dozens of times daily from the germs they suck off their fingers, much more than the few shots they may get with the recommended pattern. I give shots at the same session when possible. I encourage parents who want different to go elsewhere.

: I would not delay it at all. The kids are just as pissed and recover as fast with one shot or 5. Delaying this or any vaccine to follow the suggestions of celebrities makes no scientific sense and keeps kids at risk. You have no idea what risky encounters will occur in a kids life. You plan for the worst &amp; hope for the best.

Possibly exaggerated: Reaction such as fever and fussiness.  Infants are to receive split virion vaccine compared whole virion vaccine for adults.

: Hepatitis A immunization gives lifelong protection. It's a bit less certain for hepatitis B. It can't hurt to have another dose, especially if you are at particular risk (sexual risks, injection drug use, etc). Or you can speak with your doctor about having a blood test for hepatitis B surface antibody (HBsAb); if undetectable or low, revaccination is recommended.

It's not!!: Vaccines are very safe and important to keep your infant healthy. I recommend following the American Academy of Pediatrics immunization recommendations and that is what I do in my practice. All vaccines given in this country have been tested and found to be safe. The reported adverse effects that are frightening some parents have no scientific basis and are not caused by vaccines.

No routine vaccine: None of the licensed pediatric vaccines contain thimerosal except for multidose influenza vaccine - the single dose forms of influenza are thimerosal free.

Probably: You may need a pertussis vaccine and possibly a meningitis vaccine. Check with your doctor and obtain a record of prior vaccines that you received

rotavirus vaccine timeframe? when should my infant get a rotavirus vaccine?

Accepted Answer

2 different vaccines: There are 2 brands available: Rotarix (2 dose schedule) and RotaTeq (3 dose schedule) both are started at baby's 2 month visit though can be given as early as six weeks. A second dose is given 6-8 weeks later (can receive as early as 4 weeks after) and third dose (depending on which vaccine) no later than 32 weeks of age. This is given by mouth and not as a shot.
