i have three days left of my 7 day yeast infection treatment. is it safe to use a tampon now? this is the first infection i've had, so  i'm not sure.

If bleeding, yes: If you are on your period then yes, please use the tampon. If you are using the tampon for other reasons, then wait until your treatment course is over.

Something or nothing: Perhaps 3d antifungal treatment wasn't adequate duration. Or you might have resistant infection. Or non-yeast infection. Best to go see your Family Doc, GYN or Planned Parenthood for evaluation if standard antifungal treatment doesn't resolve your symptoms.

Yeast treatment: If it is topically up to 2-3 weeks. A diflucan (fluconazole) pill may work within 72 hours. This can be purchased over the counter. It may need to repeated times 1 in 7 days. Insure all partners are treated at the same time and there is no sex until both of you are adequately treated.

Yes: Three day topical treatment is a standard treatment for vaginal yeast infection.  However, the treatment will only work if the correct diagnosis has been made.  Failure to respond to the treatment suggests another diagnosis.

Inadequate info: What have you already used? How long has it been since tx ended? Is this a verified yeast infection? A yeast infection usually resolves in one to two weeks with appropriate treatment.  It may take longer for those who are immunocompromised.

More: I typically recommend a 5 or 7 day treatment when my patients have a yeast infection.  Sometimes the 1 or 3 day treatments aren't sufficient.  If you've completed the 3 day treatment and your symptoms (pain or itching) are gone, then hopefully you've been fully treated.

Unresolved yeast inf: You should be seen by your doctor to check for other infections (BV). If yeast is confirmed you might need an antifungal pill.

Yeast infection: Even though the yeast infection may have resolved after taking the medication, you may still have had some inflammation going on from the infection itself. Probably best to wait a few days before having sex. If it continues to hurt, you should see your gynecologist to be sure you don't also have a different kind of infection like an STD or bacterial vaginosis.
