Yes: The presence of IgG usually indicates past infection which might have occurred months or even years ago.  The presence of IgM indicates a current or recent infection.

Not necessarily: IgM antibody means recent infection.
IgG antibody usually means remote infection. You may not have the disease, just that you may have been infected at one time.

Different Diseases: Lyme and multiple myeloma are two very different diseases which are not likely to be confused for one another on a test like this.  Igg and igm are two different types of proteins made by the immune system, and within each category you have thousands of different proteins in your body.  For lyme, the test looks for a protein that proves your body has "seen" lyme organisms before.

Cross-reactivity: Your body antibodies to a protein that shares some structure with p41. This is the reason to look for antibodies to multiple HIV proteins, rather than relying on one. Antibodies do cross-react with proteins similar to the one that elicited the antibody.

: Probably not.

Determination of Lyme Disease is based primarily on clinical symptoms and on physical findings.  Serologic findings are, at best, supportive, NOT diagnostic.  For whatever its worth (not much) these tests suggest a remote episode of Lyme Disease (years or decades ago), not currently active and not needing treatment now

Myeloma: This test is a specific lab evaluation looking to determine if one has multiple myeloma or a variant of this disease. The results would best be answered by the doctor who ordered the test since they know your medical history and whatever prompted them to look for this disorder.

i have one igg band present, and 2 igm present (23 and 39). i have had symptoms off and on for years, and spend a lot of time camping and hiking. my absolute lymph were 3.3 and thyroid is a bit off. could i have had lyme for a long time, like years?

Lyme disease: Lyme disease can be a recurrent or sustained infection, and aggressive management is required for a complete "cure".  Long term Lyme's disease can have serious effects, so get a referral to an infectious disease physician for current treatment advice.

Yes: Western blot is usually more specific than ELISA.  Are you being treated?

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. IgM vs. IgG: Igm tests are typically ordered when an infection is thought to be present for one week or more. Igm levels often disappear within the first few months. Igg testing is typically ordered when the infection has been thought to be present for 2 or more weeks. Igg levels my stay elevated for years after an infection has resolved.
