Never: The benefits are too great to you and the people you help after you gain control.  Any feeling of embarrassment could be part of your problem.  You weren't the first person in their and you should be proud that you are now able to face the problem.

Not true.: 12 step programs have a tradition of not having any opinions on outside issues.  Medications are considered an outside issue. Individual members of any 12 step program may be opposed to medications; their opinions do not reflect the position of the whole program.  Take what fits and leave the rest.

I can't speak for: The people you are asking about. However, it is intrinsically difficult to admit you don't have control over something in your life. It is even more difficult to trust enough to give control over to a higher power.

Similar: Narc-anon is a twelve-step program and in those respects is very similar to traditional 12-step programs.  It is, however, specifically geared toward drug addicts.  For example, they talk about how to handle feelings of restlessness, irritability, and distractibility that may lead to wanting to use drugs.

Don't wait: There is no need to awake - it might happen, but the point is to make changes in your addictive behaviors. Talk with people involved in 12-step programs to get a sense of what they do day by day. Good luck.

Depends on device: Many devices contain a step counter or are themselves pedometers. If missing the information manual, one can go online and search for the particular device's step counter. Online instructions are usually easy to follow. For normal, healthy people, 10000 steps a day is a good goal. If not able to get 10000 steps a day, one may still see benefits from about 6000 steps a day.
