10 month old baby congested from common cold. won't sleep on flat surface n no swing. is it safe to use carseat for 1 night next to couch?

It does have risks.: The academy of pediatrics recommends a flat surface to prevent sudden infant death syndrome (sids).  A more important aspect of helping the child sleep would be nasal saline drops and suction 2 or 3 times per day, but not more frequently than this.  Certainly children can sleep in a car seat for prolonged periods without issue, but there is a higher chance of sids which must be considered.

my 10 month old baby has very thick toenails, like you'd see with arterial disease. he's had this since birth; what could cause this in an infant?

See Your Doctor: Your 10 mos old has "very thick toenails since birth". Congenital anomalies of the nails, hair, skin, teeth can be caused by a group of genetic defects called Ectodermal Dysplasias, of which there are numerous types. Involved body parts can be poorly developed or absent. Nails can be thick, misshapen or rough but usually cause no problems. See your doctor for diagnosis, genetic history, &amp; therapy.

dosage of bromfed (brompheniramine) for 14 lb infant? ped prescribed my 10 month old bromfed (brompheniramine) for her cough:  dose is 1/2 tspn/4hrs. def not the right dose for her.

Do not give.: There are many studies showing that over-the-counter cough medicines do not work for children, and in fact, many can cause side effects in some kids. In my opinion, these medicines do not work and do more harm. I hope you child feels better soon.

This is the deepest level of sleep in which hgh (human growth hormone) is released and in children provides one of the most potented hormones that naturally helps the body to grow and develop. This is why infants require so much sleep.

Baby sleep: there a lot of issues that can prohibit an infant from sleeping, from a multitude of GI issues to bad feeding schedules.  Try "The Newborn Sleep Book" for some advice.

Accepted Answer

: A one month old can easily sleep 8-10 hours straight if allowed to. They can make up any nutrition needs by feeding more effectively during the day. Feeding no closer than 1/2 hr before bedtime can help make this happen since they do not require feeding to trigger sleep. Self settling and good sleep are what you want an infant to learn.

when do babies generally start to laugh?

Laughing and babblin: Your son is doing just fine!  Babbling responsively is the beginnings of verbal communication and probably more important than laughing.  The deliciousness that is a baby's laugh is not far behind.  It can be hard to wait.

Examination.: The only way to be sure a child has an ear infection is to look at the eardrum.  See a doc and have this done, if your child is sick, please.

AURI: Suction nasal secretion with bulb syringe. No cough rx at this age. Give tylenol (acetaminophen) for fever. Check with md when not feeding and not sure of his auri problem.

Sweaty infant: Many babies are over bundled due to fear of the child getting cold. This can cause overheating and increase the risk of SIDS. Your infant should wear the same amount of clothes as you. Monitor baby carefully for blue and cold fingers and toes. Don't use too many blankets.
