Tough question: Orgasm causes uterine and fallopian tube involuntary contractions that theoretically can prevent implantation of the fertilized ivf ovum.

Relax: Although no one has studied this scientifically (for obvious reasons), it probably does no harm at all. You might want to ask your ivf doctor what he/she thinks, but i'd forget about it for now.

Not really.: As anxious a time as this is, symptoms are an unreliable indicator of good or bad outcome.  Have to just hang in there.

Wait and see : I know the waiting can be hard but unfortunately that's what you have to do. The presence or lack of pain is not predictive of outcome. Just wait a few more days and your pregnancy test will tell you the outcome.

Possible: Its possible but all these measurements by imaging including ultrasound are relative not 100% exact.

Don't worry: 1. This could be a sign of implantation as the embryo is hatching and trying to imbed into your uterine cavity


2. The spotting could be residual from either the egg retrieval or some cervical irritation from the embryo transfer- was it a difficult embryo transfer?

Make sure you stay on your Progesterone post-transfer- good luck!

Pregnant: If you have a positive pregnancy test 15 days after embryo transfer it means you are pregnant. Your ivf doctor will probably follow beta HCG levels to make sure they are rising properly and then later check ultrasounds.

About 11-14: Your doctor should have you scheduled for a pregnancy test.  Generally we test about 14-16 days after egg retrieval, which may be 11-15 days after transfer depending on what day the transfer occurs.

i did my fresh day three transfer 11 days ago. i'm suppose to go tomorrow for my blood but i see i am spotting . does that mean the ivf didn't work?

Be patient: Please be patient and wait for your pregnancy test tomorrow. Small spotting is extremely common and does not tell you 'yes' or 'no.' keep the test tomorrow, try not to worry, and good luck.

Unfortunately not: Your HCG levels do not sound like they can be consistent with a healthy pregnancy, particularly an ivf pregnancy when we know exactly how far along you are. Most likely this is a biochemical pregnancy (very early miscarriage) or there is a small chance of ectopic pregnancy. You'll want your doctor to monitor you closely until the situation is more clear.
