A urologist can also determine the significance of an enlarged kidney not caused by obstruction.

Water/ liquids: Lots of it... Stones form when urine gets concentrated.  If you drink a lot of liquids, it is less likely to get concentrated and form kidney stones.  There are numerous other factors but if you've never had one before, staying well hydrated is the best prevention.
