Sensory integration therapy

Sensory integration therapy

Share

Link copied

Sensory integration therapy is based on the idea that senses such as sight, sound, touch, spatial awareness, and gravity help to guide development. When there is a disorder of sensory integration, someone trained in sensory integration therapy, such as an occupational therapist, will provide intense sensory inputs to the various systems using various tools and techniques. This treatment is commonly used in autism spectrum disorders, and has strong supporters and detractors. The core of proven autism treatment includes behavioral and educational interventions, but sensory integration therapy may be a useful supplement to these.
