Homeless health concerns
Homeless people face unique challenges to obtaining medical care and are at increase risk of certain medical conditions such as hypothermia. In addition, personal vulnerability factors that lead to their economic condition predisposes them to poor health. These factors include physical and mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, poor education, and lack of family support. The barriers they face to health care access include extreme poverty, lack of transportation, and competing priorities for shelter and food that outweigh the motivation to seek medical care.
