Iodinated contrast

Iodinated contrast

Share

Link copied

In order to show up on x-ray or ct, contrast needs to have a high atomic number and be physiologically available but not permanent! iodinated compounds satisfy these requirements, whether for intravascular or other uses. Substances like barium sulfate are ok for the gut, but not for injection into veins. In addition, kidneys clear iodinated substances from the body, showing the renal system.
