What is the definition or description of: iodinated contrast?

Most x-ray contrast : In order to show up on x-ray or ct, contrast needs to have a high atomic number and be physiologically available but not permanent! iodinated compounds satisfy these requirements, whether for intravascular or other uses. Substances like barium sulfate are ok for the gut, but not for injection into veins. In addition, kidneys clear iodinated substances from the body, showing the renal system.

X-Ray contrast: Iodine attached to an organic molecule which is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys composes iodinated contrast. It enables visualization of arteries, veins on xrays (angiogram) or on ct scan, which also uses x-rays. By enhancing these vessels, (as well as any tissues, or tumors) diagnosis can be made. Contrast is generally safe, except in patients with kidney disease, allergy, few other.
