Paraneoplastic syndrome refers to a remote effect of a malignancy. It is a problem not caused by invasion of a body part by cancer, but instead a dysfunction occuring because of the cancer. Examples in nerve and muscle problems, abnormal blood clotting, and various autoimmune problems.
