Mitochondrial disorder
A mitochondrial disorder is a condition in which a person has a problem with his mitochondria (small structures inside each cell, that produce energy for the cell). Mitochondria have their own genes, and are passed onto offspring by a different method, compared to the 46 chromosomes from the nucleus (center) of human cells. Yet, mitochondrial disorders are usually genetic mutations.
