Juvenile diabetes

Link copied

An outdated term, more commonly referred to as Type 1 Diabetes using modern terminology, juvenile diabetes occurs when one loses their ability to make insulin in the beta cells of the pancreas due to an autoimmune process. Because insulin lowers blood glucose (sugar) levels, without the ability to make enough insulin, blood glucose levels rise, which is the classic finding in diabetes. Treatment involves administering insulin via subcutaneous (under the skin) injections.
