Tell him...: ...To have his doctor prescribe an antiviral (valtrex, famvir, (famciclovir) etc.) and make sure he takes it diligently. That will reduce your risk by at least 50%. Don't kiss him when he has a fever blister, or even when he thinks he might be developing one. That will bring your risk down to 20% or less. Until a vaccine comes out, that's about the best you can do.

High: Your risk is quite high of contracting the herpes virus from your boyfriend. If he knows when he is getting a lesion, you should avoid contact with that area to minimize your risk. There is medication that he can take to decrease the risk fo transmission.

Very: Direct contact with someone with herpes, during any time that they are shedding virus can very easily result in your contracting that virus. About 1 in 4 people in america have one of the herpes viruses, and about 90% don't know they have it.
