A member asked:

Help please! is getting your period 6 days after taking the emergency contraceptive a good thing, right?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not your period!: Emergency contraception is very effective at preventing pregnancy, but not 100%. It is associated with extra bleeding that is not related to your period. It will also likely delay your actual normal period. It can all get very confusing. It is important that you check a pregnancy test about 3 weeks after the intercourse, and expect your cycle to be somewhat more irregular for the first month.
