Pre cum: Pre cum is fluid produced by the prostate gland during the early phase of sexual arousal. There are usually some spermatozoa present as the body is getting ready to eject a large concentrated volume of sperm soon afterwards.
Dr. Heidi Fowler
Psychiatry 25 years experience
Variable: Most studies have shown low levels of sperm or no sperm in pre-ejaculate with sperm not being motile (however, don't know how promptly samples were examined). One small study published in 2011 showed that there are some individuals with a high motile sperm count in pre-ejaculate. See: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3564677/

A 24-year-old member asked:

Is it normal for my sperm to dribble out rather than spurting when I ejaculate?

Dr. George Klauber
Specializes in Pediatric Urology
No: You may have a urethral stricture (narrowing). This should be suspected if it takes longer that normal to empty yourballer and the urinary stream is very narrow. If so, see a urologist.. You could also have partial obstruction of the ejaculatory ducts.
A 35-year-old member asked:

How do I increase the amount of sperm I ejaculate?

2 doctor answers5 doctors weighed in
Dr. Edward Cherullo
Urology 24 years experience
Less sex more health: Increasing the interval of intercourse up to about 3 days will improve the concentration of sperm in your ejaculate. The volume / concentration of sperm can be decreased by smoking, illicit drug use, illness (like the flu), and poor nutrition. It takes 90 days of lifestyle change to improve the health of the majority of sperm and their numbers per ejaculate.
A 39-year-old member asked:

How in the world do some people ejaculate huge load of sperms as shown in movies?

Dr. Danny Proffitt
Family Medicine 43 years experience
Interesting question: The majority of ejaculate is made up of prostatic fluid, seminal vesicle fluid and just 1/2-1 cc from sperm. Depending on frequency, stimulation, arousal, size, hormonal influence and genetics, some men have a larger "load" than others. Every man is different and you usually are just what you are and no more. Some r "blessed"? Some r "not blessed"? Accept yourself and go on!
A 43-year-old member asked:

How do you know there are sperm in the semen?

Dr. Philip Chenette
Fertility Medicine 38 years experience
Semen analysis: A simple semen analysis is the best test for sperm in the semen. Volume, count, and motility are the most important parameters. Multiplying these gives a total motile sperm count, the single best measure of sperm. Other tests are available - check with a specialist in fertility medicine.

A female asked:

Wat is the reason for no sperm in semen nd can it b cured?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. William Brown
Gynecology 44 years experience
No sperm in semen: A semen specimen with absolutely no sperm is called "azospermia" and results from occlusion of the vas deferens (vasectomy) or testicular failure from previous illness, chemotherapy, or radiation. The testes may have never correctly developed, seen in rare chromosomal abnormalties. Pregnancy with such a partner is virtually impossible; assisted fertility with help from a specialist is needed.
