Choose therapist: You need a safe relationship with someone wise who can help you (1) deal with flashbacks / memories; (2) avoid appearing weak -- this invites abuse; (3) learn to be the best person you can in a world full of wrong; (4) learn more about people, who you can trust and who you can't; (5) perhaps new job skills; (6) find meaning, perhaps even in the thought, "i never abused others.".

Getting good help: I agree w/dr. Friedlander about finding an experienced psychologist/other psychotherapist to help you work through your experiences. I don't know as much as he seems to about your circumstances, though. Psychotherapy starts with a thorough evaluation of your issues so that effective treatment & support can be provided.
