Meds vs. Prosthesis: Meds like viagra (sildenafil) improve penile blood flow in response to stimulation by amplifying nerve output. This can improve erections. Patients on nitrates cannot takes these pills. Other medications are used via insertion or injection into the penis for those who fail oral meds. A vacuum device can mechanically create an erection. Failing these, an implantable inflatable prosthesis should be considered.
