If the oral bcp's are low dose "combination" bc, and taken as directed , ovulation is prevented. The most common cause for bleeding prior to the "placebo week" is not taking the active pills within the hour of the prior day's active pill, causing "breakthrough withdrawal bleeding". If you have been punctual, see your GYN physician, who might prescribe a slightly higher dose oral bcp.
