Many OCP's claim effectiveness after the first weeks of use, however your body may take time adapting to the hormonal change. Many OBGYNs will suggest using a backup form of birth control for the first month. If it matters that would be a realistic way to go.

Nothing is 100% when trying to avoid pregnancy. Pills, condoms, IUD, and any other method, one can still get pregnant. Always be aware and take all precautions.
